"From the stunningly coolish, west-facing slope of the cru and cultivated on blue marls topping the coralline limestone for 30 years, the Kår is always the latest-ripening Zieregg with the most challenging phenols (due to small, thick-skinned berries) and the most athletic and wiry character ("like a marathoner," says Armin Tement). Macerated for about 12 hours, vinified in a single doppelstück (2,400 liter) and two pièces, the 2020 Ried Zieregg Kår GSTK is a terrific, coolish and greenish Sauvignon Blanc with dense citrus fruit intermingled with phenols and crushed limes and salt. Very tonic, almost Verjus-styled in its energetic fresh-fruit character. Full-bodied, round and lush on the palate, this is a juicy, elegant and refined yet intense and very salty, savory and lemon-fresh, also dense and powerful Zieregg with a persistently crystalline and saline finish that is enormously salivating. Mouth-filling, dense and expressive, this is a great wine that needs some years to fully shine, but this is a safe bet."
