"From 18-year-old vines on a cooler clay plateau on coralline limestone framed by a little forest, the 2020 Ried Zieregg Kapelle GSTK offers a clear and intense, wonderfully reductive and slightly iodine nose with gooseberries, blackcurrant, grapefruit, lime and herbal fruit aromas. Aged in pièces and 700-liter oak barrels and bottled in April this year, this is a full-bodied, intense and lush, fruit-intense yet firmly structured and still slightly bitter-finishing Sauvignon Blanc that is the most fruity of the Zieregg selections and is thus aged in smaller barrels to avoid too exuberant fruit. The finish unites bitter grapefruit and lemon notes with grippy phenolics and terroir-driven salinity. This is an excellent Kapelle that is a kind of bridge between the Grassnitzberg Riff and the south-facing Zieregg."
