"The 2022 Volnay “Vieilles Vignes” from Etienne Chaix at Domaine Joseph Voillot comes in at an even thirteen percent octane in this vintage. A small percentage of the vines that go into this cuvée are around forty years of age, but the vast majority range from sixty to seventy years of age. The wine offers up a beautiful, sappy bouquet of black cherries, black plums, pigeon, dark soil tones, a hint of mustard seed, woodsmoke, violets and a touch of cedary oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, focused and nicely transparent down to its soil, with a lovely core of fruit, tangy acids, fine balance and grip and a long, complex and suavely tannic finish. This is an outstanding villages!"
