Spätburgunder Trocken Ilbesheim "Kalkbruch"
Germany
Pfalz
2021
Villages-level 100% Pinot Noir from the limestone soils (or "lime fragments" as the name Kalkbruch implies) of the Kleine Kalmit nature reserve, which arose around 27 million years ago from the limestone and shell deposits of a prehistoric sea. A dusting of red sandstone covers the chalky mother rock. Yields are very low at 45hl/ha. Spontaneous fermentation in open containers is followed by aging in 500L barrels. Rich, vibrant, and particularly spicy in its flavors and aromas, this is biodynamic, concentrated, cool climate Pinot from a ripe year -- the best of all worlds.
