Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses

Many argue that Île des Vergelesses should be classified as a Grand Cru. It’s true that in the best years, with it’s eastern exposure and mid-slope location, it behaves as a Grand Cru. Chandon de Briailles has a healthy three hectares planted to pinot noir, located in an area with a nice slope, and a good mix of clay and limestone. It’s safe to say that Île along with Bressandes are the flagship wines of the domaine. Fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in barrel for 18 months, with a modest 10% new oak.

"Opening in the glass with complex aromas of peonies, rose petals, sweet berry fruit, cinnamon and forest floor, the 2020 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses is medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, with a deep core of fruit, bright acids, melting tannins and a long, saline finish. It's one of the high points of the range."

"Here the equally cool and restrained aromas are the most floral-suffused in the range long with an airy and spicy mix of red currant and dark cherry coulis. The mouthfeel of the intense and beautifully detailed flavors is more refined still while displaying even more evident minerality on the perfumed, stylish and classy finale. This is lovely and should age extremely well as it virtually always does. Recommended."
