Anjou Blanc "Treilles"

France
Loire
2020

Pure Chenin Blanc from the 2.72 hectare monopole of the Coteau des Treilles. The “Côte-Rôtie” of the Loire was abandoned after WWII because of the steep slopes (up to 70%) and remoteness of inside what is now Pont Barré Natural Reserve. The soil is a mashup of geological chaos including magmatic rocks, schist, puddingstone, and the oldest limestone in the Loire. Aged for 18 months in barrel before bottling.

"An outstanding, regal Chenin, with plenty of concentration to the notes of creamed pear, honey and crunchy green fruit. Burgundian in profile, with salt, dusty earth and crushed stone elements adding to its savory dimension. Shows real power and complexity, with warm spice and toasted hazelnut accents playing off green almond and flint smoke. Offers a pristine, dry, long finish. Best from 2025 through 2042."
