Barolo Monvigliero

Italy
Piedmont
2020

Monvigliero is arguably the most important cru of Verduno and Fratelli Alessandria has some of the biggest holdings there, 1.4ha.  Exposures are South to Southwest, 250-310m.   High average vine age of 45 years. Made similarly to the Barolo San Lorenzo.  Monvigliero exalts the beguiling florality and spice that are Verduno’s calling card.  First produced in 1978. 6,500 bottles made.

"Verduno’s most prestigious cru, with 45-year-old plants. The aroma is refined, with notes of red blackberry in jam, hints of white pepper, marjoram and a lovely floral scent of peony. Palate with salty tannins, a finish of persistence 98 and impeccable balance."

"A touch of spices mellows the profile of this red, lending accents to the core of cherry, strawberry, rose and mineral aromas and flavors. Beautifully balanced, with finesse and an expansive finish. Stylish and elegant."

"“This has a fragrant, inviting nose with chocolate cherry, dried orange peel, hints of sandalwood and crushed stones. Medium-bodied and so tense and vibrant on the palate with vivid acidity. Tight and dusty, but already delicious.”"
