"The youngest vines in the Pommard “Vieilles Vignes” bottling from Etienne Chaix were planted in 1983, but the vast majority were planted in the decade of the 1960s and the oldest all the way back in 1934! The wine in 2022 is again a very svelte thirteen percent octane and quite classically proportioned. The bouquet hops from the glass in a vibrant and complex blend of red plums, cherries, gamebird, a complex base of soil tones, bonfire, peonies and a touch of oak. On the palate the wine is bright, red fruity, full-bodied and soil-driven in personality, with a fine core, ripe, well-integrated tannins, lovely focus and a long, nascently complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is a proper young Pommard and will demand some time along in the cellar, but it is going to be excellent juice once it starts to drink"
