The Big Red One. The Rothenpfad (red path) is the terminus of an iron- and copper-rich red-colored geological slate formation that runs throughout the Middle Mosel and ends at Pünderich. Clemens’ GG from here, like all wines made from such soil, is pungent and exotic with pronounced ripeness and great staying power. White wine for red meat.

From the estate:  "The plot „Rothenpfad“ lies within the site of Marienburg. It is located above the train viaduct opposite bank of the Moselle from Pünderich. The soil is noticeably light and dominated by weathered red clay slate. This site is particularly steep and there are no possibilities to work with heavy machinery in it. Which is perfect for the vines, as the soil is loose, these are exceedingly good conditions for the roots to dig deep. The vines for our Rothenpfad Grosses Gewächs are at least 90 years old and they are trained in the traditional single-pole Moselle way.The wines ferment spontaneously in old Fuder, they got bottled in August 2023 until then they stay on their lees.

""Fruit and slate complement each other skillfully here. Apricots, blood orange, peach and lime on both the nose and palate, with a finely savoury finish with notes of ground rock and earthiness. Fresh, very long and expressive with lots of ageing potential. An easy recommendation!""
