"The 2022 Vouvray “Sec” from Julien Pinon is just starting to hint at its period of hibernation to come, so the nose is beginning to become even a bit more defined by its soil than it probably was showing a year ago. The bouquet still shows plenty of lovely fruit, albeit, beginning its retreat, but still offering up scents of apple, quince, fresh lime, a fine base of soil tones, citrus peel, dried flowers and incipient notes of beeswax. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a good core of fruit, lovely soil inflection and grip, fine balance and a long, vibrant and zesty finish. I would suspect that this wine will continue to close down for its hibernation over the next year or so, and during that time it will drink very nicely still. A year 117 down the road, anticipate that this wine will close down for four or five years, before reemerging to drink brilliantly for the next forty years. 2024-2065.
