100% Pinot Noir from the nine-hectare Pares vineyard, a VDP Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) located at 250m elevation on the west slope of the Mainzer Berg, about 400-500m from the Horn (Simone's other Grand Cru). Composed of loess and sandy loam with a limestone base, this vineyard lay abandoned for 30 years until it was rescued and replanted with high quality German clones. This incredible Spatburgunder, Simone's finest, is a dark-hued, smoky, brambly masterpiece with sensuously deep florals in the aromas and a purple-fruit core, spicy and minerally in a way that evokes the best Nuits-St-Georges.
