Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

France
Rhône
2022

65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 5% Cinsault. The only difference between the Vieilles Vignes cuvée and the CdP Tradition cuvée is the age of the vines which here reach 100 years old. The wines are made in the same exact way: 70% in tank (stainless steel and cement) and 30% in used barrels.

"This vibrates with mineral energy, with racy power behind the notes of red currant, grilled herbs and white pepper. Smoldering iron and slightly grippy tannins make for a strict finish that wafts with campfire smoke. Shows power and restraint."

"Vinified from certified organic grapes, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes mixes 70% Grenache with 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre. Smoky licorice, ripe raspberry, black cherry and a pinch of dried herbs rise up from the glass. Outlined by grippy tannins, the full-bodied and concentrated 2022 requires at least four more years to come together."
