Champagne Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut

France
Champagne
NV

A bit of a stand out as this is 100% Chardonnay from 40-60 year-old vines in Cernay-les-Reims in the Montagne de Reims. Chardonnay works well here as the soil is very chalky with a layer of clay on top. The vines have south, southwest exposure. Aged 20% in large neutral foudres and the balance in stainless steel. A blend of 40% 2019 vintage and 60% 2017. Bottled with less than 2g/L dosage.

"This release of Jean-Yves Pérard’s Blanc de Blancs non-vintage Extra Brut is from the base year of 2020 and was disgorged in November of 2023, with a finishing dosage of two grams per liter. Twenty percent of the vins clairs are raised in older foudres and the balance in stainless steel tank. The wine offers up a lovely and quite complex bouquet of lemon, pear, chalky soil tones, a nice touch of warm bread, raw almond and a topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is crisp, full-bodied, focused and complex, with a good core of fruit, fine soil signature, frothy mousse, a lovely spine of acidity and excellent balance on the long and vibrant finish. This is an excellent bottle of Blanc de Blancs. "
