Sasu has lived a few different lives in his 38 years. Born in Finland and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts, Sasu is a(n apologetic) Boston Celtics fan. Sasu caught the wine bug during a winter 2007 trip to Andryes, Burgundy, to visit family friends his senior year of college. The first taste of Meursault made him seriously consider trading in lite beer for white Burgundy—but that wouldn't happen for a few more years... Sasu spent the next several post-college years as an itinerant—living in Chile (teaching English at a public elementary school), Argentina (translating legal document and working at a Peruvian restaurant), Hawai'i (working on coffee and permaculture farms and harvesting coconuts on the Big Island), and then graduate school in Columbia, Missouri. During his several years working in media in New York, Sasu began advancing his wine knowledge with travels to Spain, Portugal, Austria, Germany and via WSET courses on the side. He moved to Los Angeles in 2018 to be closer to family. He began working in retail and started selling wine on the side, which eventually became a full-time gig. He has a passion for alpine wines in their various forms and is a sucker for Schiava (or Trollinger). In his spare time, Sasu spends as much time in the mountains as possible. He tries (and often fails) to keep up with his Anatolian Shepherd/Husky mix, "Nilou" on the trail.
