Metodo Classico DOC Sicilia "Terzavia Cuvée VS" Extra Brut

Italy
Sicily
2021

100% Grillo. A méthode traditionelle or metodo classico wine from the organically farmed estate vineyard in the Samperi contrada of Marsala. The Grillo vines are over 30 years old, planted on sandy, limestone-rich loam. The bunches are harvested by hand into small bins, directly and gently pressed and fermented with native yeasts. Most of the wine is vinified and aged in stainless steel, with about 20% going into French oak for a year. While the base wine for De Bartoli's regular Terzavia bottling is single vintage, the base for the Terzavia "Cuvée VS" is a multi-vintage blend goes into bottle with fresh must for a second fermentation and a measure of De Bartoli's aged, dry Vecchio Samperi for complexity. Cuvée VS spends at least 30 months on the lees before being disgorged by hand. Zero dosage. The current edition was bottled in 2021 and disgorged in 2024.

"The 2021 Brut Terzavia is remarkably pretty, with a nuanced blend of freshly sliced peaches and young mango accentuated by sweet spice. It floods the palate with a bead of crystalline bubbles, mixing ripe orchard fruits with salty minerals and a tinge of sour lime toward the close. Medium in length, the 2021 finishes steely, clean and fresh, with the slightest hint of candied citrus. This is a varietal Grillo produced using Metodo Classico. Disgorged: 2024."
