This 1/3 hectare vineyard is located at the very south of the appellation, at a fifty meters distance from Romanée-Conti. The block is ploughed by horse to preserve these old vines, which average 90 years of age. The soil is primariy dark clay. 100% whole cluster. Aged in 80% new oak.

"An exceptionally fresh, airy, elegant and bright floral-suffused nose features notes of cool blue pinot fruit, red currant, tea hints and a wonderful broad range of spice influences. The latter element carries over to the energetic, precise and beautifully intense medium-bodied flavors that possess a refreshing salinity on the understated, hugely long and impeccably well-balanced finish. As seductively textured as the mid-palate is now the finish makes it quite clear that this highly complex effort will need an ample amount of cellar time."

"(these vines were picked on the same day as the Suchots and the wine was made with the same percentage of whole clusters and finished its malo at the same time, in late May): Healthy bright red. Deep, rather wild aromas of dark fruits, cocoa powder and peppery herbs show much more stem influence than the Suchots in the early going. Lush, large-scaled and utterly seamless, yet with lovely delicacy and precision to its sappy cherry and cherry skin flavors. Not as open-knit, fat or sweet today as the Suchots, and the tannins are a bit youthfully edgy, but this very long, vibrant wine should age gracefully and prove to be the superior bottle in the long run."
