Pinot Noir Kabinett Trocken 2014

Product Line:
Pinot Noir

The hard facts from the winery:

"The grapes are mainly from our Spätburgunder vineyard in Bad Dürkheim (but also from Steinacker vineyard here in Kallstadt) where you'll find rather light, sandy soil which is perfect, for the Kabinett quality. The vines were planted in 2008. The grapes were handpicked, destemmed and fermented in our big steel fermenter, pressed after 4 to 6 weeks and aged for two years in one new "Doppelstück"  (~2400 liter) and some old "Halbstück" (600 liter) barrels. Bottled in July 2016. It's showing some earthy notes with flavors of red currants and is a perfect price value for our all-day-Pinot Noir  :-) "

"Raised half in a new large Pfalz oak cask and half in second- and third-use French barriques, this offers a more concentrated dose of the tart-edged sour cherry that characterized its “Kabinett” counterpart. Smoky black tea, maritime salinity and alkalinity and marrowy meatiness make for depth as well as mouthwatering appeal. There is palpably high extract, but absolutely no heaviness. The feel is a bit stiff and grainy, but it will be fascinating to see how texture as well as flavor evolves in bottle. I’ll be very happy to eventually learn that my quantitative projection of ageability was far too conservative."
