In Remington Norman and Charles Taylor's book, The Great Domaines of Burgundy, Les Vergelesses and Ile des Vergelesses are described as top sites in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses "wines of weight and structure, capable of aging for 20 years or more."

These vines are found mid-slope on a slight incline facing east and their soil is shared between clay and limestone in medium deep ground, making this an exceptional terroir. The vines were planted in several phases, with an average age of 42 years.

(89-92) points
"(20% new oak): Bright medium ruby-red. Shy, limestone-driven nose hints at crushed cherry and crushed rock. Dense but a bit clenched following the Les Vergelesses, conveying a slight medicinal bitterness to its flavors of violet, licorice and bitter cherry. At once less spicy and smoother than usual for this wine. Finishes with serious ripe tannins, though, and an element of minerality. One of the estate's four plots in Ile des Vergelesses is 60 years old; the others were planted in the '80s and '90s (and the one on SO4 rootstock was pulled up after the 2015 harvest)."
