Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus 2015

Product Line:
Bachelet, Jean-Claude

The domaine’s vines in the premier cru Les Blanchots Dessus were planted in 1929 and they produce a wine of great depth and richness. Blanchot-Dessus is located just next to Montrachet and Criottes Batard Montrachet. 3-4 barrels produced annually, 25-33% new oak. Aged in barrel for 24 months. 30-45 g/L sulfur added at bottling.

"The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Blanchot-Dessus has a very taut nose at first, but it soon blossoms in the glass to reveal some lovely wet stone and Alpine stream aromas, augmented by a subtle background nuttiness. The palate is very well balanced with a keen thread of acidity, richer than the 2014 last year, but it manages to retain excellent poise and tension, especially as it fans out on the spicy finish. This feels harmonious and complex, a wine that deserves a couple of years in bottle before broaching. It is well worth hunting down."

"Here the reticent nose is dominated by notes of matchstick, reduction and smoke. There is notably more size, weight and volume to the dense and powerful big-bodied flavors that possess excellent mid-palate sap, all wrapped in a mineral-driven and highly complex finish. This should drink well young but also reward up to a decade of cellaring. Recommended."
