Chablis 1er Cru Vaulorent 2016

Product Line:
Farming Type:
Piuze, Patrick

Vaulorent is a sub-climate of 1er Cru Fourchaume; it is located on the same hill as all of the Grand Cru, but is not Grand Cru because it is not a part of the commune of Chablis. The vineyards face north and it's one of the last to be harvested. Limestone soil. Clean and fresh with a persistent mineral back bone.

"Aromas of lemon cream, menthol and fresh herbs. Rich, ripe and silky in the mouth, with dominant flavors of nectarine and herbs. Large-scaled and voluminous for the year but also pleasingly savory. Builds slowly on the fresh, delineated back end. This wine finished both its alcoholic and malolactic fermentations before Christmas. Very full for premier cru."

"The 2016 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaulorent has a pleasant nose of yellow flowers and an orange blossom-scented bouquet that comes across as detailed, pretty and winsome. The palate is also pretty with a bit more fatness than Piuze’s other premier crus. There is a touch of brashness about this Vaulorent that I appreciate and everything leads to a saline, lemongrass-tinged finish. This is a delicious Vaulorent from Piuze even if it does not quite match the 2014."
