A native of Tenerife, Juan J. Méndez founded Viñátigo in 1990. Driven by passion and love for his homeland, Juan decided to revive and work with all the native grapes once found on the Island. All the vineyards are planted with their original root stock (Pie Franco). The whites are made of Gual, Vijariego Blanco, Marmajuelo and Verdello, while the reds are Tintilla, Negramoll and Baboso. All of the wines are raised and bottled as 100% single varietal.
Also known as Bual when used in making Madeira, the Gual is cold soaked then fermented at a very low temperature.
