The Denominación de Origen Txacolí de Getaria is located on the coastlands of the Basque Country. It is the oldest of the Txacoli DOs created in 1990 and covers around 200 hectares of vineyards.  The DO area is protected from the cold northerly winds by the coastal hills, and enjoys a relatively mild climate, with an average annual temperature of 13.5ºC. The wines tend to be high in acid, very fresh, effervescent, mineral laden and sometimes racy. They are the perfect accompaniment to shell fish and lighter fare or just a good summer time quaffer.
