Bengoetxe is the name of the estate and the wine. Iñaki Exteberria is
the name of the producer. Iñaki and his wife, Rosa Mari, planted their
3.8 hectare vineyard in 2001 around their ancient farmhouse in the
town of Olaberria. They have worked the vineyard organically since the
beginning and obtained organic certification in 2007. Bengoetxe is the
only certified organic producer in the Getariako Txakolina D.O., and
also the only producer in the D.O. that’s not right next to the coast.
(Olaberria is about 40 kilometers south of the Atlantic coast, near
the famous cheese-producing village of Idiazábal.) Soils are clay-y.
The vines and the wine are 95% Hondarribi Zuri and 5% Gros Manseng.
