Apart from the very specific microclimate that shapes them, these wines are made with grapes from local vine varietals. Colares red wine is to this date made at the cooperative winery according to traditional techniques. The vineyards are planted to ungrafted pre-phyloxera vines of the indigenous varietals: Ramisco and Malvasia de Colares. The Atlantic influence is powerful here at on the westernmost tip of Continental Europe and the wines exhibit an elegance and minerality that only the salty air and sandy soils can provide.
