Loire

Sancerre, Pouilly Fumé, Vouvray, Muscadet, Chinon and Bourgeuil are just some of the wonderful wines made in this verdant valley whose hills are dotted with centuries old castles. A long and narrow region streching from the center of the country all the way to the Atlantic, the wide variety of soils lends itself to the production of both red and white wines. For the reds- cabernet franc and pinot noir are the most popular, for the whites- sauvignon blanc and chenin blanc are the leaders with melon de bourgogne being the principal grape in Muscadet. While different varieties are grown in each sub-region, they are rarely blended.
